Breakout moments are rarely as well-defined as they were last Saturday for UTEP receiver Kelly Akharaiyi.
Expected to step right in this year as another junior college transfer star for a unit that needed instant help, Akharaiyi struggled early for a variety of reasons.
He began to turn that around several weeks ago as his production was headed in the right direction.
But before last week’s game against Florida International, Akharaiyi still lacked that defining moment that was so badly needed before UTEP’s win-or-go-home game at UTSA Saturday.
It came with 2:15 remaining in a superlative first half for the Miners.
