With the UTEP offense starting to come together, the Miners are set to go back to Kai Locksley at quarterback as they prepare for Conference USA leader UAB.
The team will be without concussed quarterback Ryan Metz for the foreseeable future, and Brandon Jones, who almost took a hero turn in relief of Metz in the 31-24 loss to Louisiana Tech, will be the backup.
Locksley has been rehabilitating an injured ankle and was a no-go against Louisiana Tech in a game-time decision, but he was taking first-team reps Monday and said he is 100 percent. The good news is that UTEP has starting putting better pieces around the quarterback since Locksley was knocked out three weeks ago.
