If there is one moment to circle in the UTEP football team's transition from the worst program in the FBS to one significantly better than that, one could do worse than pointing to the signing day when coach Dana Dimel announced the additions of defensive tackles Kelton Moss and Keenan Stewart.
At the time they were anonymous junior college transfers on a signing-day list full of them, but not only did Moss and Stewart fulfill all expectations — Stewart will be a third-year starter this fall — they heralded a transformation of the program.
The success of Moss and Stewart, and also of the other junior college players in their class, helped give the Miners a recruiting philosophy they are still riding to this day.
