Don Maynard, a UTEP football legend from 1954-56 when the school was known as Texas Western, died Monday at the age of 86.
"It's a great loss for the community of El Paso. He was a true legend, a great player and one of the best to ever play the game of football," Sun Bowl Executive Director Bernie Olivas said. "It's a sad day."
The Miners did not throw a lot during his time with the program, but the wide receiver Maynard took advantage. He caught just 28 passes but 10 of those 28 were for touchdowns and he averaged a whopping 27.
