UTEP football inches close but can't get over the top in loss to North Texas

The next time UTEP wins a football game, the stats will look like this: yards 428-417; first downs 21-19, turnovers 2-0.

That was the line in a 27-24 loss to North Texas on Saturday because the only part of the above that mattered was two Miner turnovers to none by the best team in Conference USA.

That's how close UTEP is to snapping out of this 18-game skid, and at this point, paradoxically, both the losing streak and the breaking of it have an air of inevitability.

Before Miner fans start agonizing about this one, do consider that while they were a play or two away from winning, they did get a couple of breaks.
