UTEP football has a ways to go as it climbs out of the rubble after Northern Arizona loss

UTEP football fans need good news now, on the heels of a 30-10 loss to the FCS' Northern Arizona, and there is some.

Unequivocally, the true freshman class is UTEP's best in a while. Good times are looming.

The offensive line just about has to get better.

Chemistry means so much, and with three first-time players and another in the first time at a new position, that can only improve.

The defense still has a troubling flaw in an inability to rush the passer, but they were acceptable against NAU.

Ten of the 30 points were handed to the Lumberjacks by field position (drives of 8 and 17 yards), and while yielding three legitimate touchdowns may not often be a winning number given the problems of the offense, it's place to start.
