Many things about the UTEP women's basketball team's competitive 69-61 road loss to Louisiana Tech were fairly typical.
They played evenly for more than 30 minutes but couldn't overcome a significant Techster run, and were soundly beaten in one specific area of the game. In this case it was rebounding, where Louisiana Tech had a 48-34 edge that played a large role in the Techsters earning 33 free throws to UTEP's 11.
Louisiana Tech went on a 17-4 run that started late in the first quarter but mostly used up the first half of the second period, and given that the Techsters were 24-of-33 from the line to UTEP's 6-of-11, the Miners couldn't get closer than five points the rest of the way.
