The UTEP men's basketball team had No. 14 Kansas for the taking Thursday night in Lawrence and couldn't finish.
After a 67-62 loss, the Miners will focus on a bigger picture, turning their best game of the year into more when they start the Conference USA tournament next Wednesday.
After leading 50-36 with 12:25 to play, 55-46 with 7:10 to play and in a 62-62 tie with 21 seconds remaining, UTEP fell behind on Kansas' Marcus Garrett's drive, then Souley Boum turned the ball over three second later.
Kansas scored the final five points in the last 21 seconds for the win.
