A tight first half ended with UTEP and Cal Irvine tied at 30 in the championship game of the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational.
An early 15-point run put the Miners up 15-6, but the Anteaters quickly answered and eventually tied the game on a buzzer-beater to end the half.
Bryson Williams led UTEP with 11 points before picking up a second foul with 4:06 left and watching the rest of the half from the bench. Jordan Lathon had seven early points before leaving with a foot or ankle injury, though he did return and finished the half.
