UTEP announced the addition of five new members to its athletic hall of fame Wednesday: Basketball player Orsten Artis, track star Harrington Jackson, golfer Gerina Mendoza Piller, football standout Brian Natkin and football coach Mack Saxon.
Artis, who was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014, played for Texas Western from 1963 through 1966. Artis averaged 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds over his three-year career for the Miners. Artis scored in double figures in all five of the Miners' NCAA Tournament games in 1966 — including 22 points in the semifinal game against Utah and 15 in the championship game against Kentucky.
