As the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl reached the critical hour of finding an opponent for Washington State on Monday afternoon, bowl officials and the PAC-12 were still searching through narrowing options in an effort to save the game.
Miami, which went into a COVID shutdown last week, pulled out of the Sun Bowl Sunday night, shortly after Washington State’s airport arrival.
By Monday morning, with Washington State on the practice field at Eastwood High School, speculation focused on Central Michigan, which had its Friday Arizona Bowl game against Boise State cancelled when Boise State pulled out because of positive COVID tests early Monday.
