Texas Tech defeated UTEP 85-61 Thursday night in Lubbock in a game that does not count.
The Miners and Red Raiders engaged in a pre-season scrimmage.
Texas Tech led UTEP just 36-28 at the half but outdistanced the Miners 49-33 in the final 20 minutes. There were plenty of substitutions by both teams.
UTEP shot 43.4 percent from the field, made 4-of-14 for 28.6 percent from 3-point range. The Red Raiders outrebounded UTEP 55-30.
Jordan Lathon, a 6-foot-4 freshman, led UTEP with 17 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Evan Gilyard had 17 points, also, and sophomore Kobe Magee had four assists.
