As strange as this football season has been for UTEP, it has been stranger still for Texas.
While the Miners were scrambling to replace three non-conference games they lost to COVID, the Longhorns’ games against defending national champion LSU and the one against the Longhorns former coach Charlie Strong at South Florida were canceled.
This will be the first Longhorn regular season with 10 games since 1974 when Darrell Royal was coaching at what is now called Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
While UTEP is playing its second game on the second Saturday in September, Texas is playing its first, and this only after rescheduling the original Sept.
