The WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational basketball tournament will not take place this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sun Bowl Association announced the decision Monday, marking the second time the four-team tournament has not taken place since its inception in 1968. It didn't take place in 2008, either.
“It is unfortunate that a 59-year-old tradition has to be canceled due to the issues the COVID-19 virus has presented,” Sun Bowl executive director Bernie Olivas said. “I would like to assure everybody that this is a one-year cancellation, and we will be back in 2021 with a strong and stellar field.
