A poorly as matters have gone for the Marshall men's basketball team in Conference USA play, the Thundering Herd can score. That will always give them a puncher's chance.
They punched out the Miners 88-79 Sunday, at one point making 13 of 15 shots against a UTEP team that at times didn't offer much resistance.
A two-game losing streak on the heels of a six-game winning streak dropped the Miners to 7-5 in Conference USA while Marshall improved to 2-10. Marshall won despite gifting UTEP eight points on four taunting technical fouls that followed made baskets.
Quoting the team
"We didn't play hard enough on defense," Souley Boum said after Marshall shot 56 percent for the game and made 11-of-22 3-pointers.
