Now that string of agonizingly close losses doesn't seem so bad for the UTEP women's basketball team.
The Miners didn't come close Sunday afternoon against Portland State, losing contact with the Vikings early in the second quarter on the way to a 89-61 loss that was their seventh consecutive defeat.
The was the first in that span that wasn't particularly competitive.
Portland State broke the game open with a 16-2 run wrapped around the first quarter break, then dominated the second half as the Miners fell to 2-7.
Ariona Gill led UTEP with 17 points and Jade Rochelle added 11 off the bench.
