The centerpiece of UTEP's Monday spring football practice was work in the two-minute drill, which was non-tackling because the team wasn't in full pads.
The defense won the first two sessions with quarterback Mack Leftwich and then Kavika Johnson, but Ryan Metz, playing with the first team, then led the offense to a touchdown. It came on a pass to Cole Freytag.
"We got a lot of things accomplished," coach Sean Kugler said. "We did some no-huddle, we had a good teamwork session, we got a lot accomplished."
When asked who's stood out so far, Kugler did mention Metz, the first time he's singled out a quarterback.
