The best night of Memo Diaz's life came in 2020, which isn't something everyone can say.
Specifically, it was last Saturday. First, Diaz, the 24-year-old versatile reserve midfielder for the El Paso Locomotive, got into an elimination match against arch-rival New Mexico and helped his team to the Western Conference finals in a shootout victory.
Then in the post-game bedlam came an even bigger moment when he summoned his girlfriend India Castillo from the stands, took a knee and proposed to her. As El Paso makes the trip to Phoenix for its second consecutive Western Conference finals appearance, Castillo is now Diaz's fiance.
