A few weeks into a turbulent offseason, UTEP women’s basketball coach Kevin Baker knew the first key to the 2022-23 season would be replacing two departing point guards who were also the team’s leading scorers (Katia Gallegos and Destiny Thurman).
In landing Jazion Jackson and N’yah Boyd, two players who starred together at North Texas two years ago (Boyd signed with UTEP after spending 2021-22 at Oklahoma State), UTEP checked that box emphatically.
That, then, leads to the second key to the season. As the Miners build toward their Nov. 7 Haskins Center opener against New Orleans, the task is now to integrate two new players at the most important of positions, two players new to UTEP but fourth-year veterans at college basketball.
