The battle for receiver spots always figured to be the most interesting aspect of UTEP's spring football practice for two reasons: There is so much to replace and there are so many candidates to do it.
With the graduation of Justin Garrett and the transfer of Jacob Cowing, the Miners lost 70 percent of their receptions from wideouts. What that also means is that two starting spots are up for grabs on an offense that returns almost everything else, and that battle started Tuesday with the first of 15 spring practices.
There is much to evaluate.
"We lost some good players, a lot of production with guys who are now done," offensive coordinator Dave Warner said.
