Coming off its biggest win in years against No. 21 Middle Tennessee, the issue for the UTEP women Saturday against Western Kentucky was how they would deal with prosperity.
The Miners were doing great at that until they had too much of it, then the collapse was total. UTEP blew a 19-point fourth-quarter lead, going 0-of-8 from the field with nine turnovers in the final 10 minutes, on the way to a demoralizing 77-75 loss.
Leading 69-50 after a third quarter that rated as their best of the year, the Miners were outscored 27-6 in the fourth as they fell to 7-5 in Conference USA.
