Much-improved sophomore point guard leads UTEP women basketball to opening win

So much about the UTEP women's 77-51 victory over Alcorn State looked like last year, with one big difference.

They won big, like they usually did last November; they pounded an opponent on the boards (48-21, the sixth-biggest rebounding margin in program history); the shots they took were good and often easy, as their 53 percent shooting indicates; and they were prodigious in turning the ball over 27 times.

The difference is that only one of those 27 turnovers came from point guard Jordan Jenkins, who added 11 points and six assists in 24 minutes that bore out coach Kevin Baker's assessment that the sophomore playmaker is the team's most-improved player.
