Moss surprises with second in long jump

The only hope the UTEP men have to win the Conference USA Track and Field Championship is a string of surprises, athletes beating the form chart with big home performances.

They need the type of effort they got from Brandon Moss in the long jump.

The senior, in his third outdoor meet since joining the team after spring football, seeded eighth, sitting fifth after five jumps, unleashed a five-inch season's best at the biggest time and ended up with a silver medal behind heavily favored Ventavius Sears of Western Kentucky.

It was a reprise of their 1-2 finish from 2015 and a third-straight title from Sears.
