Emmanuel Korir and Jonah Koech both ran the fastest times in the nation Saturday — Korir in the 800-meters, Koech in the mile run.
Korir, who opened the season with the nation's fastest time in the 800, improved on that Saturday at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque. Korir, a freshman, won the 800-meters in a national best 1:46.15. Koech, a sophomore, ran the nation's fastest time in the mile with a time of 3:55.50.
"They both are young and are still learning. I don't know how fast they are going to run this year but it's going to be something special," UTEP coach Mika Laaksonen said.
