The charitable thing to say about UTEP's 83-81 overtime loss to UTSA Sunday was that after the miraculous way the Miners forced the extra period, they weren't due the next big break.
They sure didn't get it.
UTSA scored the winning points with 4.6 seconds to go in the Conference USA opener when their best player, their hottest player, Loryn Goodwin, airballed a 3-point shot so badly that her teammate Crystal Chidomere was able to leap past the baseline and save the ball to a wide open Tesha Smith standing under the basket.
Smith's layup, which came in the final half-second of the shot clock, broke the 10th tie and created the 14th and final lead change, all in the last 12:35 of regulation plus overtime.
