Mexico’s boxer Misael ‘Chino’ Rodríguez Olivas from Parral, Chihuahua, has secured Mexico’s first medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after winning his fight against Egyptian Hosam Abdin.

His victory, to most, comes as an upset victory for his country because the last Mexican boxer who won a medal was 16 years ago in Sidney 2000.

However, his victory has become an inspiring story for many Mexican because last year he and other boxers went to the streets of Mexico City to beg for money after the Mexican Federation of Box stopped receiving funds.

He used the money he received to participate at internationals competitions where he would compete for a place at Rio 2016.
