BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marshall had the ball last. And so Marshall won.
And UTEP ended a basketball season in heartache, in what ifs and in near-misses.
Two teams scored at will, scored as if they were on a summer playground. This time, though, UTEP and Marshall were staging their score-off in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament. Last month UTEP outscored Marshall 112-108 in the Don Haskins Center. On this rainy Alabama Thursday night inside the Legacy Arena, Marshall had the ball last ... and outscored the Miners 87-85.
