The Eldoret, Kenya-to-UTEP track pipeline has long been deep and productive, but it doesn't always send over athletes as ready to step right in at a national level like freshman Jonah Koech.
He heads to Oregon next weekend for the NCAA Track and Field Championships in the 800 meters looking to become the first Miner freshman to earn All-American honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track since the legendary 15-time national champion Suleiman Nyambui did it in 1979.
Koech is only going to get better as his UTEP career progresses over the next three years, and that's rather amazing because it's starting from such a high level.
