UTEP players, coaches react to the death of Luke Laufenberg Bret Bloomquist, Wochit
Luke Laufenberg's time at UTEP, indeed on Earth, was too short, but his impact was felt deeply on a tragic Thursday.
The 21-year-old junior tight end died after a two-year battle with leukemia, just six and a half months after he was introduced on signing day as a gem of UTEP's 2019 class and four and a half months after a diagnosis that his illness had returned.
Laufenberg participated in the first month of spring drills with the Miners before learning on April 4 that Burkitt's lymphoma had returned, at which point he went back to the Metroplex to be with his family.
