If there comes a point when Jakeira Ford achieves her immense potential for the UTEP women's basketball team — and her ceiling in that regard seems awfully high — the week just completed will be remembered as the turning point.
It began with her in coach Keitha Adams' doghouse, thrown out of a practice and benched for the Thursday game against UAB. It ended with her best night as a Miner, as she scored 11 points in 22 minutes Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
The 6-foot-1 freshman looked like the player who chose UTEP over, among others, Texas A&M, Louisiana State and Cal.
