Almost two weeks ago, former UTEP long snapper Jon Dorenbos was acquired by the New Orleans Saints in a trade with his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
It may have saved his life.
On Friday, Saints coach Sean Payton announced that Dorenbos will require open heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm that was discovered in a follow-up physical after his trade.
Payton said Saints physician, Dr. John Amoss, “basically saved his life with his findings” during a press conference at the team's headquarters.
Dorenbos, 37, will be placed on the non-football injury list and is expected to have surgery “pretty quickly.
