GOLD COAST, Australia - UTEP alum Tobi Amusan breezed to a victory in the 100 meter hurdles at the Commonwealth Games Friday, pulling away from top rival Danielle Williams of Jamaica to take gold with a time of 12.68 seconds.
Williams was second in 12.78, about a step behind the Nigerian Amusan.
Amusan, who won the NCAA national championships in the 100 hurdles last year as a junior for the Miners before going pro, was just 0.11 off her personal best despite running into a .02 meter-per-second headwind. She still lives and trains in El Paso with UTEP hurdles coach Lacena Golding-Clarke.
