Torrance Lovesee's first season playing for the UTEP volleyball team has been a revelation.
After missing last season to a knee injury, Lovesee twice won Conference USA offensive player of the week and is currently second on the team in kills. The Miners are off to a 7-2 start in Conference USA play as they head to North Texas and then No. 21 Rice this coming weekend.
Lovesee came to El Paso last year from Leon, Kan., a town of 699 people 40 miles east of Wichita. She was a three-sport athlete in high school and won state track championships in the long jump, triple jump and discus.
