El Paso running legend Culpepper legend joins UTEP track staff

El Paso's most accomplished distance runner, Alan Culpepper, is joining the UTEP track and field staff.

A Coronado alum who competed in two Olympics and four World Championships and finished fourth in the 2005 Boston Marathon, Culpepper joined the staff as an assistant cross country and distance coach and an operations assistant. He is an addition, as all four current assistants are returning.

“I am thrilled to be joining the UTEP program, returning to my hometown of El Paso and working alongside an amazing staff,” the 48-year-old Culpepper said. “UTEP played a significant role in my life growing up in El Paso and the community was always so supportive of my early development in the sport.
