In hindsight, UTEP football coach Dana Dimel thinks a decision he made two months ago to submit to COVID testing in Houston led to his team having to cancel its Saturday game at Rice.
In a Monday press conference, a day after UTEP suspended football activities, he revealed one player tested positive Friday upon arrival in Houston, which led to Saturday retests of the entire team.
Enough UTEP players who tested negative on Friday tested positive on Saturday that the Miners had to cancel the game, put the positive players on a bus and return to El Paso.
