For an elite high school distance runner such as Coronado’s Luis Pastor, an area track and field meet on a hot, windy day is something to be survived.
Get a step closer to state by punching a ticket to regionals, call it a day, move on.
That’s easier to do for a runner who is faster than anyone else in the field, and while Pastor, a junior, didn’t feel he was at his best Friday at Franklin High School, he was better than everyone else.
Seven hours after a comfortable victory in the 6A 3,200 meters where he ran alone for the last mile, Pastor completed the sweep with a tougher but still commanding victory in the 1,600.
