The UTEP football team has improved dramatically this year.
There may not be enough improvement possible for the Miners to overcome a minus-3 turnover margin as a two-touchdown road underdog, and they didn't manage that in a 38-28 loss to Charlotte where they led 14-7 in the final minute of the first half.
Two huge mistakes in the first half sent them to the locker room in a 14-14 tie of a game they were controlling, then two more turnovers in the third quarter put the Miners in a hole they could not overcome.
Ultimately UTEP tired in the second half, giving up 24 consecutive points after a promising first 27 minutes as they fell to 3-3 following a third consecutive road game.
