ALBUQUERQUE - The renewal of the UTEP-New Mexico men's basketball rivalry turned out to be a thriller and showed why the two teams should be playing more often.
Elijah Brown hit an 18-foot jumper with 5.8 seconds left from the right of the top of the key to lift New Mexico past a gutsy and determined UTEP squad, 78-77, on Wednesday night at the Pit.
The Miners (2-5) had a last shot to win it but Dominic Artis' 3-pointer as time expired was off the mark. UNM is now 6-3 on the season and is 5-0 at home.
