The UTEP men's basketball team's biggest weakness this season has been obvious: They don't always get the guard play to compliment the dominance of center Bryson Williams.
Souley Boum took a big first step toward correcting that against North Carolina A&T in Monday's first round of the WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational.
His 26 points, seven rebounds and three assists propelled UTEP to a 72-54 victory, earning them a game Tuesday against UC Irvine.
After a partly lackluster first 15 minutes of the game, Boum keyed a half-closing 13-3 run that put the Miners up 37-29.
