Big day: UTEP Miners start fast, blow out Florida International

Where was that all season?

That was a pertinent question after the UTEP football team's 40-6 victory over Florida International University that kept its bowl hopes alive going into the final week of the regular season.

Starting backup quarterback Calvin Brownholtz, the Miners looked like the team they thought they could be all year.

They ran the ball up and down the field, picked apart FIU with precision passes and converted a string of third downs. On defense they harassed the quarterback, snagged an interception and got off the field, often after three-and-outs.

Questioning the level of competition against a Panther team that looked truly done with its season is valid, but this looked like the UTEP team that routed Boise State earlier this year.
