That Katia Gallegos and Avery Crouse would become best friends seems evident to everyone except them.
The third-year sophomore guards arrived at UTEP together in 2019, and they grew into starting leadership roles together for the UTEP women’s basketball team. They are the only third-year players on the squad.
Crouse is a native El Pasoan who moved to the Dallas area when she was 4 years old, Gallegos is a native Juaranese who crossed the Rio Grande when she was 9.
They have both started every game for three years and they are now roommates.
