SALT LAKE CITY — It’s official: lacrosse will become the next varsity men’s sport at the University of Utah.
The school’s board of trustees voted unanimously Friday morning to add the sport with the requisite six members available. University president David Pershing approved the motion to the board following a proposal from the school’s eight-member new sport working group, and Utah athletic director Chris Hill submitted the decision to promote the school’s club program to varsity status for the 2018-19 school year on a public conference call.
“The opportunity to give this to students is a wonderful opportunity in our state, and also to be recognized nationally as a leader,” Utah athletic director Chris Hill said during the conference call.
