BERKELEY, Calif. — Fifth-ranked Utah gymnastics displayed true teamwork when it came together to pull off a 197.025-196.750 victory against No. 14 California Saturday at Haas Pavilion.
With senior Kailah Delaney out with a sore knee and all-arounder Samantha Partyka limited to two events with a lower leg injury, the Red Rocks displayed great depth. Freshman Erika Muhaw appeared in her first routine to count and scored a 9.80 on vault. Fellow freshman MaKenna Merrell also filled in for her injured teammates, earning 9.825 on vault and 9.80 on beam.
But another swing of adversity hit the Utes.
