LOS ANGELES — Richard Chaney was one of just five players on Team Utah who didn’t play college basketball in the Beehive State during The Basketball Tournament opener Saturday at Cal State Los Angeles.
But the former Troy guard made the biggest shot of the game.
Chaney drained a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in overtime to lift Team Utah to a 78-77 win over the Utah State Stallions. The former Trojan finished with 12 points, while Terrence Drisdom paced Team Utah with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Utah Valley alum Marcel Davis, who had a game-high 27 points for the Stallions, missed a desperation heave at the buzzer to help Team Utah advance to face the winner of second-seeded LAUNFD and West Coast Ronin on Sunday.
