One round after his kicking mate was drafted, Matt Gay had is name called in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Matt was the 4th Utes drafted up to this point (5 overall), and of course completed the duo of Wishonwsky and Gay’s kicking duo.
Gay is the first Utah kicker taken in the draft in program history and the first Pac-12 kicker drafted since 2009 when USC’s David Buehler went in the fifth round to Dallas. Gay is the third Ute drafted by Tampa Bay in school history. With both Gay and Mitch Wishnowsky getting drafted, it is the first time since 1985 that a punter and a kicker from the same school were drafted in the same year.
