SAN JOSE — Future Ute gymnast MyKayla Skinner's dream of being selected to the 2016 U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team is one meet away from becoming a reality.
At the halfway point of the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Olympic Trials, Skinner rests in fourth place. Her 59.450 all-around score on Friday night falls behind gold-metal favorite Simone Biles (61.850), Laurie Hernandez (60.850) and Aly Raisman (59.950). The 19-year-old's score was 1.70 points higher than her best of two at the P&G Championships a couple weeks ago.
Skinner, who deferred a year of enrollment at the University of Utah for a run at the Olympics, is one of 14 other gymnasts competing for a place on the team.
