Former Utah kicker making a difference in Chicago

CHICAGO — Andy Phillips was one of the most reliable kickers in Utah football history, converting 84 of 100 field-goal attempts and 175-176 extra points in his four-year career with the Utes.

He was also an excellent ambassador for the university. In his time at Utah, the Draper native left a promising alpine career with the U.S. Ski Team for football and earned a master’s degree in information systems.

Since signing a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears in the NFL, “Automatic Andy” hasn’t changed as much as you’d think. He was recently brought in to help conduct the Bears’ Mini-Monsters’ youth football camp for 150 aspiring football players through the league’s “Play 60” program on Chicago’s South Side.
