SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team opened a three-game series against Stanford with a 9-7 win over the Cardinal on Friday afternoon.
Utah took a 7-0 lead through the first four innings and Stanford came back to put the score within a run, 8-7, through seven innings. The Utes got an insurance run in the eighth to take a two-run lead before closing it out in the ninth.
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Kellen Marruffo was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Dallas Carroll and Andre Jackson each had two hits and drove in two runs on the day.
