LOS ANGELES - Despite out-hitting the Trojans, the Utah baseball team dropped its series opener against USC on Friday night.
USC broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth and added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Jayson Rose pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with four strikeouts. Andre Jackson surrendered two runs in the eighth inning with a strikeout while Trenton Stoltz allowed a hit and walk after throwing 2/3 of an inning.
Utah was led at the plate by Dallas Carroll, who went 3-for-4 while Cody Scaggari had two doubles and scored two runs, and Josh Rose also had a pair of hits.
