Taylorsville • Woods Cross used a 16-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters to dispose of Wasatch 40-30 in the first round of the Class 5A girls’ basketball state tournament Monday night.
The Wildcats, which were held scoreless for the game’s first four minutes, closed the first half with an 11-0 run and built an 11-point lead before Wasatch scored again.
“We just work hard,” Woods Cross senior Olivia Barton said. “Talking is big because when we talk, that’s when we start getting turnovers.”
Barton scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the first half and nearly outscored Wasatch by herself before the break.
